Fun fact — Why is vanilla one of the most expensive spices in the world?

Vanilla is the second most expensive spice after saffron — and for good reason. Each vanilla orchid flower must be hand-pollinated during a small 24-hour window, and the beans take 9 months to grow, then another several months to cure.

    Why it matters

The process is extremely labor-intensive and delicate, with much of the work done by skilled farmers in Madagascar, which produces over 80% of the world's supply.

    Did you know?

The careful curing process is what brings out the signature aroma and rich, sweet flavor. Every step, from farm to final packaging, involves attention to detail and traditional techniques. That's what makes real vanilla a true luxury ingredient.
